What you do

  1. Add hexane (an alkane) to tube 1 and look at both layers.
  2. Add cyclohexene (an alkene) to tube 2.

Safety in a real lab

⚠ Bromine water is toxic and the hydrocarbons are flammable: no flames nearby.
